FoodSavers Network

The FoodSavers Network, led by Inns Churches in Bradford, is creating lasting change.

Through a growing network of community “pantries,” members can buy groceries at low cost while also saving money in a Credit Union account. This unique model helps families stretch their budgets, build financial resilience, and enjoy healthy food options. We are lucky enough to have Juli Thompson, the CEO of FoodSavers Network as the chair of Leeds Food Partnership advisory board!

By combining affordable food access, financial inclusion, and food waste reduction, our system supports both people and the planet.

Key Impacts

  • Financial Savings – Members save significantly on weekly shopping. Reports show £1.6 million saved on grocery bills, with £8,259 deposited into Credit Union accounts in one quarter.

  • Building Financial Resilience – Part of the membership fee goes into a Credit Union savings account. This encourages saving and reduces dependence on emergency food aid.

  • Reducing Food Waste – By redistributing surplus and unwanted food, FoodSavers prevents good food from going to landfill.

  • Promoting Healthy Eating – Pantries offer fresh produce and healthy options. Some hubs also run cookery classes to build confidence in the kitchen.

  • Community Impact – FoodSavers strengthens local networks, supports community groups, and addresses food poverty across Bradford.

  • Member Benefits – Beyond affordable food and savings, members can access advice on debt and budgeting, as well as cooking workshops.

Real Results

  • In 2024, members made 30,895 visits to pantries, accessing food for 185,370 meals and saving £24,005 in Credit Union accounts (Inns Churches).

  • A bespoke CRM platform and rewards app now support the FoodSavers experience.

  • Bradford Council recognised FoodSavers as a key part of the city’s anti-poverty and good food strategies.

  • In one quarter alone, 1,713 savers made 8,021 weekly shops, taking home food for 48,126 meals (Inns Churches).

  • The network continues to expand, partnering with more pantries and Credit Unions to reach more communities.
